What Is Acupuncture

In the UK more and more people are finding out what acupuncture can do for them.

Acupuncture is a safe and effective system of medicine that originated in China over three thousand years ago. It now represents an important part of healthcare both as a stand alone therapy, and in combination with conventional western medicine in the modern world.

Traditional Chinese Acupuncture views the human body holistically, focusing on the health of the person as a whole and with emphasis on the connection between physical and emotional well-being. As every person is unique, an individual may become ill for different reasons to another. Therefore each persons treatment is designed accordingly, to suit them. A great range of issues can be addressed at the same time, with the relationship between them being a central part of treatment.

Chinese philosophy dictates that good health involves a continuous smooth flow of energy(Qi) through channels within the body. Illness, injury or emotional stress occurs when Qi is out of balance or unable to flow freely.

Acupuncture sets outs out to maintain the body’s equilibrium and the flow of Qi, by inserting fine needles into specific points on the body. Many patients receiving acupuncture will often report an increased sense of well-being with more energy, greater clarity of thought, improved quality of sleep, and feeling calmer alongside a general improvement in symptoms.

Vivien is not only a sensitive and accomplished practitioner of acupuncture; she is also a receptive listener with a deep understanding of life.  I feel focused and well for days after after a treatment from her.
